Оглавление

This book is the partial result of my unpublished PhD thesis “Current and future possibilities for the regulation of algorithmic discrimination” and focuses on one of the two main themes contained in my dissertation: data protection as a mechanism to deal with instances of algorithmic discrimination. First of all, I want to thank my supervisor, Professor Andrés Boix, for helping me to choose a topic he knew I would feel passionate about, for trusting that I would be able to carry out this project and always making time to help me. I do not think it is possible to truly express how grateful I am for having the opportunity to work with someone with his expertise and knowledge and who has always treated me with such kindness and patience.

I would also like to thank Professors Sofia Ranchordás and Juli Ponce for having been part of my PhD committee. It was an honour to present my doctoral thesis before them and having the opportunity of benefitting from the expertise of such renowned scholars. I would especially like to thank professor Gabriel Doménech for all the time he has dedicated and continues to dedicate to helping me improve my work. I’m also very thankful to professors Janneke Gerards, Juan Mestre and Susana de la Sierra, for their valuable insights and advice.

I am very grateful to my colleagues in the Department of Administrative Law of the University of Valencia for their support and friendship and, especially, to the senior members in our research team, for creating a work environment in which we all feel comfortable to freely express our opinions and ideas. I also want to convey my appreciation to the Department of Constitutional Law of the University of Valencia, where I took my first steps as an undergraduate researcher and where professors Ana Marrades, Julia Sevilla and Margarita Soler became my first mentors and to express my gratitude to the Department of Public Law at Gómez Acebo & Pombo (València), especially to Josep, who trusted and mentored me and has been one of the best teachers I have ever had.

I could not have done my PhD dissertation or written this book without the love, care and support of all those people that have stood beside me on a daily basis and to whom I dedicate this book. To my parents, my grandparents and my aunt, who have always held my hand, loved and taught me what I was capable of. To my sister, Elena, who is the most brilliant and kind person I have ever met and is always there for me in a way no one else can be. To Ana, Carol and Meri, for always being just a phone call away and for their friendship and emotional and moral support. To Javi and Juan, for challenging me to be better. To Elena and María, who have always been proud of who I am and known what I could achieve. To Borja, Guille and Rafa, for the laughter and talks about politics. To Julia, whose friendship I can always count on from miles away. To Elisa and Gemma, for always listening and understanding. To my cousin, Adrián, for the endless conversation we get back to every few months. To Ana María, who took me under her wing and has always helped and protected me. To Clàudia, because we lean on each other through the madness that the world of academia can sometimes be and, together, we have learned to (mostly) laugh it all out. And last, but not least, to Jorge, for listening to me, supporting all my decisions and being the best travel partner I could have hoped for. Thank you.
