Snow White Cypress Knee
Several years ago,
Randy Glau
of Lemont,
Ill., bought a number of cypress knees from
a dealer in Florida. He said it took some time
for this unusual eight-knobbed knee to tell
him who it wanted to be, but eventually he
realized it was perfect for
Snow White and the
Seven Dwarves
. “It took almost six months
of carving and recarving,” said Randy. “The
shapes and personalities were decided by the
sizes of the knees.”

Memorial Plaques
J.E. Greyzck
of Remus, Mich.,
was asked by a friend to carve
plaques for a memorial to
servicemen lost in Vietnam. A
Vietnam veteran and long-time
carver, Mr. Greyzck spent more
than five months carving four
mahogany panels. Three of them
list local Michigan men lost
during the war, and the fourth
panel shows a dragon image
with the words, “All gave some,
Some gave all” and “God bless
America.” The panels, which
Mr. Greyzck calls his “most
meaningful carving,” are housed
in an open-air pavilion.
Sleepy Owl
Alex Garfield
adapted
Joseph Savarese’s
Sleepy Owl
pattern (Summer 2012, Issue
#59) into a box. The body is
hollow and the removeable
head has a stopper-shaped
bottom. Alex added a base
and a captive mouse. Alex
is a member of the British
Woodcarving Association’s
North Wales and
Borders branch.
