The development of stereotactic precision has led to huge advancements in the surgical treatment of movement disorders. Coupled with advancements in imaging, the current generation of surgeons has realized that both ablative and augmentative surgeries have important roles in the surgical treatment of movement disorder patients. In addition to radiofrequency ablative approaches developed more than 40 years ago, patients now have access to refined techniques that include radiosurgery and DBS.
