The Two-Part Plan The Dedicated Stereotactic Operating Room

Оглавление

On my return to Pittsburgh in the summer of 1981, I continued work on the creation of a dedicated stereotactic operating room at Presbyterian University Hospital. CT was the new tool but dedication to an operating room when there were only two CT scanners in the city proved problematic. Our proposal required review by the medical cost council (The Health Systems Agency) for approval. With the assistance of a neurosurgeon on the council and the support of the faculty at Pitt, such as Roberto Heros and Peter Jannetta, we got the CT scanner approved as a “therapeutic surgical tool.” Our Specialized Neurosurgical Center for stereotactic and functional brain surgery was inaugurated in 1982 [3].
