Other Adipocytokines
ОглавлениеOther adipocytokines such as visfatin [42], chemerin [43], resistin, and IL-6 [31] have been postulated to play a role in insulin resistance during pregnancy. Visfatin, produced in visceral fat cells and possibly placenta, has insulin-like activity, promotes β-cell proliferation, and reaches maternal peak concentrations in the mid trimester of pregnancy [44]. Resistin, presumably placental in origin, increases during pregnancy [45]. This adipocytokine has been postulated to enable insulin resistance by impairing cellular glucose uptake [31]. Our full understanding of the mechanism(s) of pregnancy-related insulin resistance awaits further elucidation. There is clearly a complex interaction among placental hormones, adipokines, and other substances.
