Myoinositol

Оглавление

Myoinositol is an insulin-sensitizing agent. In women with GDM, a trial of 69 women randomized to myoinositol 4 g/day with folic acid 400 μg daily or folic acid alone showed that myoinositol resulted in improvement in insulin resistance [59]. The same group of researchers also studied myoinositol 2 g with 200 μg folic acid daily compared to 200 μg folic acid daily alone for 220 obese women with BMI >30 kg/m2 from 12 to 13 weeks gestation, continued until delivery [60]. This study reported a reduction in GDM from 33.6 to 14% (p = 0.001) for those on myoinositol. In contrast to this study, another trial involving 240 women with a family history of diabetes mellitus randomized to 1,100 mg myoinositol, 27.6 mg D-chiro-inositol, and 400 μg folic acid, or to 400 μg folic acid only, from the first antenatal visit until 24–28 weeks gestation showed no difference in the rate of GDM or fasting plasma glucose [61].

The effect of inositol compared to resveratrol in overweight pregnant women has also been examined in randomized controlled trial of 110 women in 3 groups of resveratrol with inositol, inositol alone, or placebo [62]. Those on resveratrol supplement had greater falls in lipid and glucose parameters than the other groups over a 30-day period. The results of another randomized controlled trial comparing a twice-daily control nutritional drink enriched with standard micronutrients to a twice-daily intervention nutritional drink enriched with additional micronutrients, myoinositol, and probiotics are awaited [63].
