Definitions of Movement
ОглавлениеParalysis: Loss of voluntary movement (motor)
Paresis: Partial loss of voluntary movement
Synkinesis: Simultaneous movement
Dyskinesis: Inappropriate movement (degree or timing)
Paralysis may be the most frequently used term, yet it is the rarest condition in my experience. I really am only sure that I have seen it shortly after a complete transection of the nerve.
Paresis is a relatively common condition in which a muscle fails to completely contract. There is partial and appropriate motion.
Given the high incidence of nerve regrowth, synkinesis and dyskinesis are frequent findings.
