In the neurolaryngology exam, the vocal cords should be viewed vibrating at both low and high pitches as well as at both loud and soft volumes. Low pitch and low volume tend to remove compensation in cases of vocal weakness. The asynchronous vibrations generate a poor voice. In general, the examiner wants to obtain a video recording during the poorest quality vocal production.
