Executive function
ОглавлениеA key component of cognitive development in early and middle childhood involves children’s abilities to control and monitor their own thinking and behavior in order to make plans, solve problems, and pursue goals. Executive function abilities refer to these higher‐order cognitive processes (such as planning and problem solving) that involve supervising and controlling lower‐level cognitive processes (such as attention and memory). Generally, executive function involves cognitive flexibility, attention, memory (particularly working memory), and inhibitory control (similar to self‐regulation; Zelazo & Müller, 2011).
