Cross‐sectional studies of physical activity and fat mass
ОглавлениеNumerous cross‐sectional analyses have confirmed an inverse relationship between physical activity and abdominal fat. Master athletes compared with age‐ and BMI‐matched controls have lower waist circumference, and physically active women have lower waist‐to‐hip ratios than inactive women. It has been determined that the higher the intensity of activity independent of energy expenditure, the lower are the abdominal fat estimates for men and women. In a study of monozygotic and dizygotic female twins, physical activity was the strongest predictor of central obesity after controlling for genetic and environmental factors, and this persisted for those with a genetic predisposition to obesity.
