EVOLVING LANDSCAPE
ОглавлениеIn the wake of the most recent ice age, changes to Acadia’s landscape have been slow and subtle. Each year, running water polishes the granite surfaces, winter’s expanding ice separates rocks from mountainsides, waves shape the ledge-covered shoreline, and storms move smaller debris to shift the park’s beaches. While the landscape continues to evolve slowly, human activities are accelerating many natural processes as the changing climate increases average temperatures, sea level rise, and storm intensities.
