The Role of Self-Sabotage

Оглавление

Something we also need to be aware of: the fear and the excitement responses in our brains are exactly the same. Our brain does not know the difference. Ever wonder why people sabotage their progress or even career with senseless choices? It’s because as they get excited and are about to reach their potential, if they have not resolved their trauma their gut instinct tells them something is wrong. The excitement creates the same feeling as the trauma. So, they end up victimizing themselves and don’t understand why. They ask, “Everything was going so perfectly, why did I do this?” The answer is they haven’t worked through their trauma, fear, shame, and denial. This explains why there’s such an epidemic of so-called successful and wealthy people who are miserable and self-destructive. They are caught in this cycle as well. Don’t be alarmed if this happens to you as you work through this process. It is actually a gift. Your brain is beginning to change and, as it changes, you may experience slips and take a few steps backward. That doesn’t mean you’ve lost everything; just continue to work at it. On the positive side, you will feel this change as you begin to create moments of joy and spontaneity in your life.
