Once, in a magazine, Tiny read: You were given a life. What did you make of it?
It made her think about gifts she received and loved.
None of those gifts were people.
Sometimes Tiny has a bad feeling.
She doesn’t have words for it.
Maybe it isn’t actually bad, or even a feeling.
It rests at the top of her stomach, tucked underneath her ribs. Tiny imagines opening her ribcage like the hood of a car and pulling the feeling out.
Look, she’d say. I can hold this. That means it isn’t me.
