• Loss of neck mobility by ~30%

• Instrumentation failure

• Bone graft failure

• Intraoperative CSF leak

• Blood clot (deep vein thrombosis, or more severe pulmonary embolism)

• Damage to spinal nerves and/or cord

• Postoperative weakness or numbness or continued pain
