Dairy Milk Dispensers

Оглавление

There are but a select few presents that everyone, simply everyone, will have received at some point in their lives. The gift may differ depending on which decade you grew up in, but they all form a common link across each generation.

The legendary Dairy Milk Dispenser was one such item of my youth. This was a red plastic cabinet, which you filled with miniature Dairy Milk bars. These bars could then be removed by depositing a 2p piece in a slot, like a tiny vending machine. It was terribly exciting stuff – so exciting that none of us seemed to realise that we could have eaten all the chocolates without bothering with the dispenser. We were children deliberately making it more difficult for ourselves to get to sweets – unheard of at any other time of year.

Genius.

I was surprised to learn that these still exist today, but they are clearly not as popular as they once were, and they certainly don’t take 2p pieces any more. It would appear to be 10p pieces these days, which is surely way above the rate of inflation?
