Understanding the historical precedent of the collapse can help inform the urgency, speed, and breadth that will be required in a response. The response must be as historical as the collapse. There is a difference between understanding historical disease or plague versus understanding historical economic decline.

The current economic collapse is historic. Make no mistake, humanity is battling with their back to the edge of the precipice. It feels like we are all attempting to hold on. To assuage the psychological toll of the economic collapse, we must teach, communicate, and learn about the coronavirus collapse in the context of other historical economic depressions.

There are three key historical takeaways. The first is how monetary policy can re-balance commercial ties among nations. The second is that a "plague" has never had such a dramatic impact on commerce, and third is attached, there is little that history can teach us about rebuilding. Never before has the world been required to pick up the pieces to the extent that the millennial generation must do so in order to save our economy.
