CASE STUDY: BECKY SHEERAN, TALKBECKYTALK
ОглавлениеBecky quit her job as a trainee BBC TV presenter to focus on YouTube full-time. Her YouTube channel TalkBeckyTalk (youtube.com/TalkBeckyTalk) has more than 160,000 subscribers. She debated whether or not to cover in her vlogs the subject of her father’s sudden death, but found being honest with her audience helped her cope.
She says: ‘I sat in front of the camera and talked. The support I got was incredible. My viewers got me through the hardest months of my life. We had thousands and thousands of letters and emails of support every single day. It got to the point where I walked along the street and someone would say, “I watched one of your videos and I want to give you a hug because of your dad.” It was so emotional to go through that with them.’
Don’t throw away your script once you’ve finished filming. It will speed up the editing process if you have the script to hand when you’re working out which scenes to cut, because you’ll have written down the most important things. If something’s not on your script, cut it out to Keep It Short and Simple. K.I.S.S.
By the end of this chapter, you should have:
Researched the length of your favourite vloggers’ videos
Researched the subjects you’re covering in your vlog
Soaked up knowledge related to those subjects
Planned a beginning, middle and end to hook in viewers and solve their problems
Thought about camera angles and props to illustrate key points
