Foreword
ОглавлениеThere are many conflicting views on what exactly makes a ‘classic tractor’. This book predominantly covers tractors produced from the late 1960s to the late 1980s – the period most commonly thought of as the classic era.
During that time, tractors experienced huge increases in power and saw a rise in the popularity of four-wheel drive. Driver comfort – previously often overlooked – became an important consideration in the late 1980s as quiet cabs with flat floors became the industry standard.
Many of the tractors included in this book are extremely popular – legends in their own right. However, some lesser-known manufacturers’ examples are also included for added interest and to give a complete overview of the machines on offer at the time.
Some of the models in this book were produced at a number of factories for different markets, but the locations provided here only cover the manufacturing location for tractors sold on the UK market.
Many of these classics can still be found hard at work on British farms, often 40 years since they left the factory. Ever-increasing interest from enthusiasts and farmers alike is helping to ensure that tractors from the classic period are preserved for many more years to come.
