TOOLS

E

very tool in this process is good at doing a particular set of tasks very

well. It’s not that each tool can’t be stretched to do other tasks, but the

more you stretch them, the more inefficient the process may become.

For instance, if you switch from the axe to the drawknife too soon, you

may find that you’re spending more time using the drawknife than is

necessary. Some of this is reliant on skill with the tool itself, but it’s also a

skill just to know when you should switch tools. This takes time, practice,

and patience. A condensed set of tools could be more efficient once you

learn how to use them well. And sometimes the best tool for the job is

the one that’s closest or sharpest.
