Managing Materials
ОглавлениеBefore you can turn a chunk of green wood, there are a few steps you must take, and a variety of steps you can take if you choose. If you’re not using the wood right away, you must store it properly. There are ways to create effects in the wood, such as spalting, if you so desire. Additionally, preparing a burl for turning requires some special attention. When it comes to preserving the materials you have, the most important task is to figure out how to minimize change. Before detailing how this can be done, I’ll explain the basic elements of what wood is and how it responds to change.
The classic burl features rays extending from the core to the bark, culminating in surface points or pins.
