Cutting Strips
ОглавлениеThis is the first stage to producing strips cut crosswise across the fabric, either to be used as they are or to be cut again to produce squares, rectangles, and triangles.
1 | Keep the fold in the fabric after creating a straight edge and then fold the fabric in half again so that the fold lies on top of the selvages and the cut edges lie together. There are now four thicknesses of fabric.
2 | Place the ruler on your fabric with a horizontal line on the fold and the desired width measurement on the straightened edge (opposite page, top).
3 | Place your hand firmly in the center of the ruler. Start cutting before the fold and cut across the fabric in one movement.
4 | Repeat until you have cut the number of strips needed. Open out the strips and check that they have straight edges. If they have a slight V shape, or if it becomes difficult to line up the ruler with the horizontal on the fold and the measurement along the whole cut edge, repeat the process in the previous Creating a Straight Edge section.
