Caricature Beer Can
Inspired by Floyd Rhadigan’s “Caricature Beer Bottle” article
(
WCI
Spring 2012, Issue 59),
Debra Jakel
of Montgomery, Ala.,
carved a special beer can in honor of her dad, Hank, and her
uncles. The men, who call themselves “The Saints,” enjoy drinking
beer (from a can) together at family events. A career artist but new
carver, Debra learned to carve from Carole Jean Boyd.
Juniper Man
When a friend gave
her a couple of juniper
limbs,
Kathy Robbins
of Prescott Valley,
Ariz., turned them
into mountain men.
This one is 17
" tall,
including the base.
Layered Relief
Paul J. Reinhart
of Tiffin, Ohio,
creates relief carvings by carving
two or three layers separately and
attaching them to complete the
image. Not only is his method
easier than carving the image from
one piece of wood, said Paul, but
“doing one layer at a time gives it
a three-dimensional look which
enhances the shadow lines.”
