Photodynamic therapy is a safe and effective adjuvant treatment option for patients with malignant gliomas, which allows highly selective management of the neoplasm and results in prolongation of survival without negative impact on the QOL. Maximal tumor resection guided by 5-ALA-induced fluorescence and/or other intraoperative adjuncts, seems to be an important prerequisite to maximize efficacy of PDT.
