Posttreatment MRI
ОглавлениеEarly MRI after LITT usually demonstrates initial enlargement of the lesion accompanied by ring-like contrast enhancement. Typically, there are 4 concentric zones with inverse intensities on T1- and T2-weighted images, corresponding to different histopathological tissue changes [18, 19]. The central area of T1 hyperintensity is characterized by generalized damage of cell membranes and collections of high-protein fluid rich in hemoglobin, whereas the adjacent T1 hypointense zone contains cells with necrotizing edema. With time these tissues progress into delayed liquefactive necrosis. The third area on MRI is represented by a thin layer of contrast enhancement that delineates the outer border of the thermal damage. It is surrounded by the area of perilesional edema [18]. Shrinkage of the lesion and appearance of more or less homogenous contrast enhancement is usually observed within a few months after treatment [19].
