The contemporary concept of LITT presumes minimally invasive treatment with or without iMRI control for attainment of the maximal therapeutic effect with minimal risk of complications and low overall cost of care. Two thermal therapy systems have been introduced during the last decade for management of brain tumors: NeuroBlate^®, previously known as AutoLITT (Monteris Medical, Inc.; Plymouth, MN, USA), and Visualase^® (BioTex, Inc.; Houston, TX, USA) cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009 and 2006, respectively. Both devices utilize real-time iMRI guidance to direct the procedure and assess therapeutic effects.
