Conclusion
ОглавлениеSymptoms and signs of hypopharyngeal cancer tend to be minimised by patients and practitioners until the patient is severely distressed or has an obvious mass in the neck. Patients with a history of tobacco, alcohol and betel nut usage should be considered very high risk of developing hypopharyngeal cancer. Disease staging should include modern imaging CT scanning and positron emission tomography-CT to ensure that a metachronus second and distant metastasis have been excluded before commencing treatment. The association of significant co-morbidity is a major factor determining treatment selection and determining the longevity of patient survival.
