AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs are well known in the cosmeceutical and medical fields, and for good reason. They are used for a multitude of purposes, from acne to precancerous lesions, and can be found in chemical peels, over-the-counter products, and topical prescriptions. Especially with stronger concentrations of these acids, it is absolutely essential that they are properly administered and prescribed under the care of a licensed practitioner and that all pre- and post- care instructions are followed in order to ensure patient safety. Maintaining recommended cosmeceutical and sun protection routines before, during, and after any HA cosmeceutical treatment or product will help to optimize the patient’s results. The HA family will continue to be highly regarded in the industry for years to come, with breakthroughs in research emerging constantly regarding their subgroups and related molecular structures, and their myriad of uses.
