history

Long Lake, Minnesota, was first settled by Europeans in the mid-1800s. In its early years, it was much like many other early settlements of the time. The Native Americans who called the area home were moved away, and houses, stores, and mills popped up throughout the area. The town continued to grow, and by the 1890s residents realized they were in the perfect climate to grow many different types of berries.

The town began to boom in population at that time, as it became a center for berry production. Berries from Long Lake were shipped to many parts of the country, and to this day, the town owes its size and history to the berries that were grown here.

ghost story

Many things about the ghosts at Holbrook Park are very specific and are repeated almost exactly every time the ghosts are seen. First, the ghosts are only seen on Sunday night. There has never been a report of the ghosts here spotted on any day of the week other than Sunday. Next, the ghosts appear at a very specific time—only between midnight and 2 a.m.

Two ghosts are seen here. The first ghost is that of a little girl, who always looks lost and frightened when she is by herself. Many witnesses approach her with the intention of trying to help her, but will soon regret that decision when she mysteriously vanishes.

Other times, the little girl ghost is seen with her father. When she is with her father, she does not seem frightened but is instead happily gathering berries into her apron. If you approach the girl when her father is there, the girl will disappear but the father will attack. People who approach them at night have scratch marks on their body that have no source, and they sometimes feel as if something had just punched them in the stomach.

visiting

While it usually makes it easier to find the ghosts in an area when you know the exact time that they come out; in this case, it makes it a little bit harder. Holbrook Park closes at 10 p.m. This is long after dark many nights of the year, but the ghosts don’t come out until sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. This doesn’t make it impossible for us law-abiding paranormal explorers to find the ghosts though. Luckily, there are many public roads that run alongside the park. As long as you do not enter the park grounds, you can drive or walk around the edge of the park looking in to see the ghosts. Be sure that you keep your eye on your watch though; it is illegal to park on any street in Long Lake after 2 a.m.
