Rules for Exploring the Locations in this Book

WHAT FOLLOWS ARE NOT GUIDELINES but indispensable rules you must follow at all costs. As ghost hunters, we have certain responsibilities. We are not lawbreakers. We are not vandals. We are researchers. We are curious. We are archaeologists and scientists. We are adventurers.

1) Keep your own safety in mind at all times: Many of the locations can be dangerous if not approached cautiously. After all, many of the ghosts encountered in the book have died from accidents in these very locations. Some places aren’t in the best of neighborhoods where you shouldn’t go alone at night with expensive equipment. Some places are along dangerous roads or in dangerous parks. Nothing is worth putting your own life in jeopardy. Be smart. Take a friend. Let people know where you are going. Do not put yourself into harm’s way.

2) Obey the law: Listed in many of the following chapters are guidelines for visiting the haunted locations. Some cemeteries are open throughout the night, while others close at dark. If you enter cemeteries, businesses, or parks after they are closed, you are trespassing, and saying that you’re “looking for ghosts” will not save you from being arrested. Also, the guidelines that I mentioned are always subject to change. Cemeteries, parks, or businesses may change their hours of operation or their rules. If posted signs at the location give hours or rules different than the ones listed in this book, follow the information on the signs posted at the location.

3) Show respect: Many of the following locations are deeply imbedded with historical significance. Do not disrespect the memory of those who once walked here. As ghost hunters, we need to create a reputation as people who respect history and the places where the dead may still roam. If we gain a reputation as people who destroy historical landmarks or who act like children, it will make it harder to gain access to any haunted location in the future. These ghosts trying so hard to be heard may be forced to suffer in perpetual silence.

The authors of this book cannot take responsibility for those who disregard these rules. This book is meant to encourage people to learn about and even experience the ghosts and history of the Twin Cities, not to hurt anyone or upset the community. Keep your adventures legal, respectful, and, above all, keep them safe.

HAPPY GHOSTING!
