Consider turnover, profits, number of employees, range of products, raw material prices, prices of products, volume of production, and staff working hours.
Figure 2.1.10a: The number of lorries (US: trucks) on motorways (US: freeways) is increasing all over the world. Is transporting products with trucks the cheapest way to do it?
Take care when using adjectives and adverbs. For example: There was a rapid increase in raw material price. Prices of products rose rapidly. Other adjectives and adverbs which describe a fast, medium or slow speed or rate of change: sudden/suddenly, sharp/sharply, fast/fast, steady/steadily, slow/slowly, gradual/gradually.
Sizes of large, medium or small changes could be described as dramatic/dramatically, considerable/considerably, substantial/substantially, noticeable/noticeably, significant/significantly, slight/slightly, negligible/ negligibly. [8]
