Rule 19: Conduct of Vessels in Restricted Visibility

This is what you do when you can't see other boats because of fog, heavy rain, or darkness.
1. Slow down and be ready:
Go at a safe speed so you can stop in time.
Keep your engine ready to maneuver immediately.
2.
if your radar sees a boat – если ваш радар обнаружил судно
figure out – выясните
if you’re getting too close – если вы подходите слишком близко
or are on a collision course – или на пути столкновения (с судном)
if you are – если вы (на пути столкновения или слишком близко)
take an action early – предпримите действие заранее
try not to turn left – постарайтесь не поворачивать на лево
for a boat in front of you – к лодке, которая перед вами
unless you’re overtaking it – иначе вы идете на обгон
try not to turn towards – постарайтесь не поворачивать по направлению
a boat to your side – лодки на вашей стороне
or behind you – или позади вас
2. If your radar sees a boat:
Figure out if you're getting too close or are on a collision course.
If you are, take action early.
Try not to turn left for a boat in front of you (unless you're overtaking it).
Try not to turn towards a boat to your side or behind you.
3. If you hear – если вы слышите
a fog signal ahead – сигнал о тумане впереди
this is critical – это критично
if you hear a fog signal – если вы слышите сигнал о тумане
from somewhere – откуда-то
in front of you – впереди вас
slow down – замедлитесь
immediately – немедленно
slow to the minimum speed – замедлитесь на минимальную скорость
needed to steer – необходимую для управления
be ready to stop completely – будьте готовы полностью остановиться
if you have to – если это необходимо
proceed with extreme caution – действуйте с предельной осторожностью
until you’re sure – пока вы не убедитесь
the danger has passed – что опасность миновала
3. If You Hear a Fog Signal Ahead:
This is critical. If you hear a fog signal from somewhere in front of you, slow down immediately.
Slow to the minimum speed needed to steer.
Be ready to stop completely if you have to.
Proceed with extreme caution until you're sure the danger has passed.
