The field mouse was glad to go home with his cousin.

So away the two mice went to town.

Soon they came safely to a fine house.

“This is my home,” said the town mouse.

“Now I will show you the things I eat.”

So they stole into the house, and oh, such good things as they saw!

There were sweet cakes and buns.

There were oranges and apples.

There was pudding, and some meat.

“This is fine!” cried the field mouse.

“Just look at that meat! I do like meat!

I shall not live in the fields again.”
