Closing Thoughts
ОглавлениеEstablishing clear, student-centered learning targets is one of the most important steps in engaging and empowering our learners while creating a student-centered approach to assessment. The targets will act as a rudder in making many of the follow-up decisions around grading, ongoing self-assessment, and reporting. With the standards largely stipulated by educational jurisdictions, it might be predictable that teachers have felt somewhat powerless in this arena, and therefore including students may have seemed impossible. However, as we've seen, we can take definitive steps to ensure our students understand where the learning path leads and, with our guidance, even affect the destination.
It's imperative that we not replicate Joe De Sena's Death Race by obscuring the finish line. Instead, we should follow the SEAL teams' example by letting everyone in on the goals of the mission. Now that we've established that students have a rightful place at the table when learning targets are being built, shared, and used, let's consider how we can help students achieve those targets.
