It is easy to become so wrapped up in the Design Game that you feel you must have everything perfect. Don’t sweat it. Every house is full of compromises — even warm-spirited, inviting, and comfortable homes have their share of little problem areas and “shouldas.” Some people — those who don’t have building code concerns! — just start laying things out on the ground, and design as they build. That, too, can work. By the time you work your way through the Design Game, you’ll have learned an awful lot about what you want your house to be like.This awareness — even when it’s an awareness of flaws — is invaluable. It is your first important thinking tool.
