“The College of Idaho is a place where you can complete your degree in four years, with a high job placement rate. If you plan to attend graduate school, the College of Idaho has a very positive record for acceptance and placement rates at some of the most reputable programs in the country. We offer small classes (12:1 student to faculty ratio), faculty who care about you as a person, internships, an academic calendar which encourages international travel and opportunities to participate in community-based classes and projects. The college was recently ranked the 20th best college in the U.S. for “More Things to Do on Campus” by the Princeton Review and is regularly ranked in various publications as a top college in the Pacific Northwest. The College of Idaho's location in “the Treasure Valley’ allows for outdoor opportunities that include skiing, hiking, climbing, rafting, kayaking and exploring the desert. Located minutes from metropolitan Boise, the college is easily accessible by air or automobile.”

Campus Setting

The College of Idaho is a liberal arts institution founded in 1891. Its 50-acre campus is located in Caldwell, 25 miles west of Boise. A four-year private institution, Idaho College has an enrollment of 1,059 students. Idaho College provides on-campus housing with 347 units that can accommodate 577 students. Student Life and Activities

Just over half (62 percent) of students live on campus. According to the school, “There are many activities going on during the school year. The Student Involvement Office helps students discover how to get involved in activities on campus and in the community. From athletics to theater or music, the opportunities are limitless for students to be involved.” Students gather at McCain Student Union, Simplot Dining Hall, local coffee shops, restaurants, Albertson's Athletic Center and the Center on the Grove in Boise. Homecoming, Caldwell Fine Art Programs, Theater Productions, Langroise Trio, Greek Formal, Liberal Art Lectures, Potters Clay, A.L.A.S. Cultural Dinners, Late Night Campus Ministry, Finals Breakfasts, Berger's Bench, Spring Fling, Rosenthal Art Gallery, student government activities, C of I Student Research Conference, Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Comedy in the Pub, Phreakin’ Phrenzies, Film Festivales, Greek Week, Winter Fest, sporting activities, intermural activities and Outdoor Program are popular events. College of Idaho has 50 official student organizations. Academics and Learning Environment

College of Idaho has 75 full-time and 38 part-time faculty members, offering a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1. The most common course size is 10 to 19 students. College of Idaho offers 31 majors with the most popular being health, business and history and least popular being elementary education, religion and sports/fitness center management. The school has a general core requirement. Cooperative education is available. All first-year students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher to avoid academic probation, and a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required to graduate. B Student Support and Success

At the College of Idaho, new students participate in the First Year Experience, which is geared to provide “living and learning experiences that facilitates a successful transition to a college community centered on exacting scholarship and life-long learning.” The program includes a First Year Theme and Book in which a theme is chosen and then a book supporting that theme is read before the fall semester begins. From there, discussions of the book are held, as well as guest speakers, films, debates, theatrical productions and even special tie-in menus in the dining halls.

Support for Students with Learning Disabilities

Learning disabled students are supported by the College of Idaho through lighter course loads and additional time to complete a degree. An advisor/advocate from the LD program is available to students. This member also sits on the admissions committee.

How to Get Admitted

For admissions decisions, non-academic factors considered: interview · extracurricular activities · special talents, interests and abilities · character/personal qualities · volunteer work · work experience · state of residency · alumni relationship. A high school diploma is required, although a GED is also accepted for admissions consideration. SAT or ACT test scores are required of all applicants. SAT Subject Test scores are not required. According to the admissions office: Minimum 3.0 GPA and SAT of 1000 or ACT of 20 for regular admission. Provisional admission also considered. Academic units recommended: 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 4 Social Studies, 3 Foreign Language.
