Mountainchurchweih is the best

and the oldest Frankenfest.

On Pfingsten-Thursday, every year

wird angezapft a barrel beer.

The Erlangen mayor then verkünd:

„Ozapft is, you can now drink!”

Then it begins, the Fest called Berch,

is everywhere a big Gewerch.

The ox on Spieß smells really lecker,

and Brezn sells the Meyer-Bäcker.

So mancher guest genüßlich kaut,

On Franken-Bratwurst, Sauerkraut.

In front of smudgy Kellertür

the people wait for their Maß Bier,

dressed in Dirndl, Lederhosen,

and then with their Maß Bier anstoßen.

Left davon die Schaschlig brutzeln,

right some men am Rettich zuzeln.

Also the music plays recht laut,

the drummer on the Trommel haut.

A Prosit of Gemütlichkeit,

a drunken man on street hin speit.

Meanwhile the people tun scho schunkeln,

the golden stars vom heaven funkeln.

All streets are full, and in den Gängen

die Leute hin zur toilet drängen.

The beer rumort im Unterleib,

zum toilet house is ganz schön weit,

and außerdem recht overcrowed,

therefore the Motto sometimes lautet:

Keep cool, brich nothing overs Knie,

if urgent you must go for pee,

and have a look for a Gebüsch.

Of course officially not allowed,

if someone das Gebüsch zamsaut.

Sometimes nach elf Uhr in der Nacht

„The festival is now vorbei!”

Then many thousands of the guests,

which kamen zu dem churchweih-Fest,

are going down town in die Kneipen

and want a little länger bleiben.

They have their Kragen not yet voll,

cause furthermore it is quite toll,

to trinken Bier and Schnaps and wine,

as no one stands auf einem Bein.

Twelfe days and nights the Fest goes on,

since seventeen fifty five nun schon.

And every year Gemütlichkeit,

die people zu dem „Berch“ hin treibt.

Almost a jeder churchweih guest

sagt: „Much better than Oktoberfest!“
