T.G.I.S.G.A.J. (Thank God I Still Got A Job!)

T.G.I.S.G.A.J. signifying- Thank God, I still got a job that I’m blessed a fallen economy didn’t rob.

T.G.I.S.G.E. - Thank God I still got employment with no lost wages to damper my enjoyment of life, family, freedom and a good night’s rest.

This I’ll never take for granted or complain anymore lest they perish. I cherish life’s big and little treats even its irregular heart beats.

I do adore

and want more

of the life I’ve got.

Though harder than not

hiking uphill most times,

I except its rewards in dimes acknowledging small change adds up. If a beggar with one dingy tin cup can get rich in America if persistent, then so too can I, patiently insistent! I’ll no longer take this job here for granted. It’s hard but I know at least both feet are planted. Right now, here is where I need to be! It took company-wide pink slips to make me see…

Work took me down feeling heavily weighted, I spent days moping, complaining- unelated.

Then that bully, that fiend called bad economy struck! Helpless to strike back employers started to pluck staff members as if they represented strands of unwanted grey hair. Pink colored the work places on slips like wallpaper hung without care! Luckily through it all, I remained employed. I panicked thinking how freedom I now enjoyed might have suddenly disappeared with a slip. Could my family and I have survived such a dip?

T.G.I.S.G.A.J. signifying- Thank God, I still got a job! I’m blessed a fallen economy didn’t rob: me of the ability to pay college tuition this day; protection afforded by safe housing in depressed areas with gangs rebel rousing; nutritional benefits of a good meal one legally enjoyed without conspiring to steal; an intact family free from economic distress.

T.G.I.S.G.A.J. I simply have to confess!

Sometimes the threat of losing

without plans or ones choosing

any taken-for-granted-thing

breeds deeper understanding.

Employee tolerances increase

with unemployment’s release

of those once busied by wining and complaining

who forget if God placed them there-there is someplace worth maintaining!

And when time is up whether or not the intended lesson has been learned,

we’re relocated elsewhere hopefully with stripes past employment has earned.

Yet I say, T.G.I.S.G.A.J. those slips aren’t raining in my direction and there will be no dreaded pink bacterial infection piped through vents this day intended for me.

As for the future, rest assure I’ll be

on constant and careful lookout.

Even when planning a cookout,

we’ll purchase lesser cuts of meat.

I’ll be conservatively discreet.

Budgeting, recycling, prudently living

now might spare my family giving

time to adapt if I am ever unemployed.

Why not be proactive now rather than later, annoyed?

Who knows when there will come a day

you’ll be Glad to hear yourself say- T.G.I.A.G.A.J.! May it never come. Pray God spares this economy some. A penny or dime tossed at a time…

will do.

God, won’t You

please for all those barely standing

grant a seat for a spell or a cushioned landing.

Some have fallen from so far as casualties of economy’s war.

When they rise I cannot promise they’ll give credit where or when it’s due. I ask anyway regardless of obstinate adults knowing their children need You.

The answer arriving delivered by either email

or traditional snail mail;

to a Facebook or a Twitter account

will amount…

To more than an on-time miracle because it is more than a miracle

America needs!
