WHAT’S IN THIS BOOK
ОглавлениеBackpacking Washington gives you all the information you need to find and enjoy your backpacking adventure, but leaves enough room for you to make your own discoveries. I have hiked every mile of trail described in these books, so you can follow my directions and advice with confidence. You get to choose from destinations throughout the state that make for fine overnight and multiday backpacking trips. They reflect the amazing diversity of hiking options in Washington State—from the wild Olympic Coast to the lonely Selkirk and Blue Mountains in eastern Washington. Though not meant to be comprehensive, this guidebook will lead you to the popular “must-see” places as well as introduce you to some destinations I like to refer to as the “trail less traveled,” destinations ideal for shunning crowds and dispersing our use. Choosing what to include wasn’t easy, but in making my selections I prioritized trips that meet the following qualifications:
•Is one of a wide range of destinations reflecting Washington State’s diverse regions and landscapes
•Can be done in two to seven days
•Doesn’t require a long or complicated car shuttle between trailheads
•Offers exceptional scenery, wildlife observations, and/or wilderness experiences
•Is accessible from generally good roads so that most vehicles can reach the trailhead
