PERMITS, REGULATIONS, AND FEES

Оглавление

As our public lands become increasingly popular, and as both state and federal funding continue to decline, regulations and permits have become necessary components of managing our natural heritage. It’s important that you know, understand, and abide by them.

Generally, most developed trailheads in Washington and Oregon national forests fall under the Region 6 forest pass program. In order to park legally at many designated trailheads, you must display a Northwest Forest Pass in your windshield. They are available for a small daily fee, or you can purchase an annual pass valid throughout Region 6.

Concerning Washington’s national parks, popular access points in Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks require an entrance fee. The North Cascades National Park Complex does not charge an entrance fee. Your best bet if you hike a lot in both national parks and forests is to buy an America the Beautiful Pass (also known as an Interagency Pass). This pass grants you and three other adults (children under sixteen are admitted free) in your vehicle access for an entire year to all federal recreation sites that charge a fee, including national parks, national forests, national wildlife refuges, and Bureau of Land Management areas not only here in Washington but throughout the country. You can purchase passes at national park and forest visitor centers as well as at many area outdoor retailers.
