“Well, Sir, according to your CV you matriculated in 1980?”

“Yes, Mrs Khumalo.”

“Moreover, you played some rugby?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“And you were an active member of the shooting club?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“What did you shoot at, Sir?”

“We only shot target, Ma’am.”

“Why, were you practising to shoot people at a later stage?”

“No, Ma’am.”

“Then, what was the necessity for having a shooting club, Sir?”

“For us it was just something like a sport, Ma’am.”

“You also mention in your CV that you were a Voortrekker. Could you please enlighten me on this phenomenon called the Voortrekkers, Sir? Evidently a man of your age could not have participated in the Great Trek?”

“It’s a cultural organisation for children, Ma’am.”

“What was the mission of the Voortrekkers? Did you travel by ox-wagon?”

“No, Ma’am. We just went on camps and stuff.”

“What was the nature of your activities during those camps? Preparing for war?”

“No, Ma’am. We learned how to live in the veld ... and we did some drilling ... and went on night marches ... and learned how to make different knots in a rope, Ma’am.”

“Knots in a rope? To what purpose?”

“To use in time of trouble, Ma’am.”

“Furthermore, it is mentioned in your CV that you were a member of the former South African Defence Force.”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“For a period of two years?”

“Yes, Ma’am. For two years, Ma’am.”

“Tell me, Sir, please tell me: What is the significance of all these activities mentioned in your CV?”
