While a study by Briggs and Hawkins revealed that more than 93 percent of convicted child molesters suffered abuse as children³³, being a victim of sexual abuse does not naturally lead to being an offender as an adult. There are far too many victims for that to be the case. It is estimated that up to 48 million women and up to 22 million men in the United States have suffered molestation before the age of 18. Also, the fact that more than twice as many women as men are victimized, while most of the molesters are men, does not gel with the theory of the victim necessarily becoming a victimizer.
