Although there is very little evidence of cerebral small-vessel disease in dialysis patients, the incidence is higher than that in healthy individuals, suggesting that it is a risk factor for the development of stroke in the future; thus, discovery of cerebral small-vessel disease is very important. Many recent studies have reported that cerebral small-vessel disease is also a risk factor of cognitive impairment and dementia. Accumulation of evidence regarding these outcomes in dialysis patients is necessary.
