New Techniques and Tools

Оглавление

Needle LEMG is the standard LEMG technique. The needle is recording electrical potentials named motor unit action potentials (MUPs) generated by muscle fibers close to the needle. The use of single fiber electromyography has not yet been established as part of clinical routine. Single-fiber LEMG allows to record potentials from single muscle fibers [6]. Transcutaneous SF-ELMG using bipolar microelectrodes with a diameter of 25 µm with repeated insertions is well tolerated and is able to analyze the muscle fiber density in the TA. Thereby, it can be used to study abnormalities of neuromuscular transition and to study the MUP architecture. This can be helpful to diagnose a myopathy, for instance in a case of dysphonia because of myasthenia gravis, or to detect a motor neuron disease like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in the TA [6].
