Because Tiny is responsible and holds memories, she exists and belongs. Because she is no longer afraid of that pain or contradiction, she will threaten people, or else they will treat her like a child. To them, Tiny will be a paradox of green fingernails, botanical faith, and buoyant heart. She will remind herself not to always apologize, or explain herself, or rationalize. We do not need to apologize for existing.
Tiny has never seen a coral reef in person, but she knows they exist. They are nests, apartments, museums, public housing, fields, individuals, and populations all at once. Their tones depend on sun, chemicals, creatures, and who’s looking. They are, in as many ways as music can fill a room and the bodies inside it.
