Hey friends!

Anyone who knows me knows why I love baking

so much: it’s the perfect mix of chemistry and

creativity. There’s nothing like whipping up a batter,

watching it take shape in the oven, and then using

your imagination to decorate. And the best part,

of course, is sharing what you make with friends

and family.

Baking can seem hard. I get it. But it’s all about

practice! Everyone has to start somewhere, so

work at your own pace and try the easy treats

first. My granola bars (page 44) and sugar cookies

(page 25) are a great place to begin. As your

confidence grows, why not test your skills with

something a little more difficult like Magical

Mermaid Cupcakes (page 94) or my Birthday

Cake Surprise (page 80).

Along the way, try experimenting! When I was

learning to bake, as I got comfortable in the

kitchen, I started adding my own little twists—

a pinch of cinnamon here, a dash of vanilla

there—to show off my personal style. Those

small experiments turned out to be some of

my most successful baking efforts! Sure, things

don’t always go as planned. Just keep in mind

that bumps in the baking road are okay, and

that a positive attitude changes everything.

Remember, too, that as long as you’re willing

to put in the work and keep trying, you can

do anything!
