Blocking the pieces by pinning them out to shape and steam pressing on the wrong side before making up gives a professional finish especially for garments in natural fibers. Press the seams as you construct the garment.

Always check the yarn care instructions on the ball band because yarns in man-made fibers often cannot be pressed, in which case they can be pinned out to size, sprayed lightly with water, and left to dry to set the shapes before sewing up. Beaded knits can be pressed on the wrong side, using a cloth to protect the surface but garments covered in sequins should never be pressed.
