The Embassy of the Republic of France in South Africa presents its compliments to the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa and has the honour to convey that a South African diplomat, Mr J Castelyn, stationed in Paris, France, has applied for political asylum in France.

The application for asylum has been granted in view of the evidence that agents are threatening the life of this accredited diplomat.

The government of the Republic of France hereby undertakes to protect Mr Castelyn and requests that the Republic of South Africa provides the same assurances that the lives of the above and any other South African diplomats accredited to France not be threatened in any way by agents of the state.

The Embassy of France would like to renew to the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa the assurances of its highest consideration.
