During 2017, the proposal for the creation of the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Development was presented, where the objective is the promotion of national scenarios for the integration of an interdisciplinary and participatory system of training, research, incidence in public policy and social impact on various of the Sustainable Development Goals (Unesco Chair in Sustainable Development, 2017). As a strategy, the chair has promoted the “Agroecological Forum for Sustainable Cities”. This has served as a stage to promote contact between academia and social organizations. One of the results of this dialogue is the social category of “worthy forms of coexistence”, these are understood as strategies implemented from the communities that face dignified life and a healthy environment in the territory. These forms can take multiple expressions, so here we have focused on proposals that understand dignity as the search for autonomy and protection of life in all its manifestations. In this article we start from a reflection on the development and the alternative proposal of good living, until presenting the reflections that have been giving for four years in the framework of the “Agroecological Forum for Sustainable Cities” and on which the category of “worthy forms of coexistence”.
