Rationale for Stereotactic Cryodestruction of Intracranial Gliomas
ОглавлениеIt is believed that growth of the glial neoplasms is mainly determined by the relatively small fraction of the highly proliferating cells [29]. At present these metabolically active tumor areas with high proliferative activity may be effectively identified with such metabolic neuroimaging as positron emission tomography with 11C-methionine (MET-PET) or single photon emission CT with 99mTechnetium methoxyisobutylisonitrile (99mTc-MIBI SPECT) [30]. Our technique of stereotactic cryodestruction based on modern neuronavigation allows highly selective targeting and precise ablation of these “high-risk” parts within the gliomas, and ensures minimal risk to functionally important brain structures in the vicinity of the neoplasm.
