Stereotactic cryodestruction of supratentorial gliomas located within functionally important brain areas is a relatively safe and potentially effective treatment modality. Cryoablation of the most metabolically active parts of the neoplasm, identified with contemporary metabolic neuroimaging, may provide prolongation of survival and preserve good QOL in patients with brain tumors that are not suitable for microsurgical resection. Therefore, it seems reasonable to consider the use of this therapeutic option in multimodality management strategies of “unresectable” intracranial gliomas, and further studies directed at evaluation of its efficacy are definitely needed.
